Over 200 enthusiastic Tappan Zee High School and South Orangetown Middle School Italian language students and their families joined members of the SOMS and TZHS Italian Clubs and the TZHS Italian Honor Society, as well as Italian language teachers Roberta Avantifiori, Maria Bruno, Tricia Castelli, and Celina Poggiogalle, for the Fifth Annual Italian Potluck Family Night at Tappan Zee High School on October 19.
The evening of Italian culture and cuisine is part of Italian Heritage Month celebrations and featured more than 60 delicious dishes contributed by families and student clubs. After dinner, students and guests performed the Tarantella folk dance together and played a round of Tombola, a form of Italian bingo. Students led a sing-along of Fabio Rovazzi and Gianni Morandi’s “Volare” to close the evening’s festivities.
Ms. Castelli reports that a wonderful time was had by all and that families, students and teachers look forward to next year’s celebration!
