Tappan Zee High School

A letter-writing campaign spearheaded by TZ United and the Tappan Zee High School National Honor Society chapter has raised more than $5,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation this holiday season!

Students were encouraged to write letters to Macy’s acknowledging its support for Make-A-Wish; for every letter received, Macy’s pledged to donate $2 to the foundation, which grants wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. Other clubs jumped onboard and students school-wide drafted letters during lunch periods and study halls to maximize the impact of the TZHS effort.

“Our students expressed how thankful they are for everything they have and saw this as a great opportunity to help others,” said TZ United advisor Scott Silver. “Some have been personally impacted through their families or close friends by the work of Make-A-Wish Foundation.”

“This was a wonderful experience for our students to exhibit the character traits that are celebrated by the National Honor Society,” added NHS co-advisor Nicole Farish. “Supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation through Macy’s has brought together our TZ school community, as it encourages and promotes kindness, empathy, and giving, especially during the holiday season.”

Community members are invited to support the effort as well! Just write a note acknowledging Macy’s support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and drop it off in the Tappan Zee High School by Friday, December 13. Letters received after today will each earn a $1 Macy’s donation to Make-A-Wish.
