One hundred twenty Tappan Zee High School students–48 new inductees and 72 seniors who received their pins–were recognized at tonight’s National Honor Society induction ceremony! To be eligible for membership, students must demonstrate outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Superintendent of Schools Robert Pritchard commended students on “the choices and sacrifices” they made to earn this prestigious honor.
Special awards were presented by President Lola Wright, Vice President Jason Olszewski, Secretaries Naomi Acosta and Joseph Grammatica and Treasurer Elizabeth Sullivan:
- Social Studies Teacher Matthew Robertson received the Special Teacher Award for the “profound difference he has made in the lives and education” of NHS members
- For “leading with grace and taking others’ perspectives into account,” Lucy Barsanti and Jacob Greenberg were presented with the Senior Awards for Outstanding Leadership
- Isaiah Olds-Campanile and Blaire Seaman earned the Senior Awards for Outstanding Citizenship for their “kindness and honesty and putting others before themselves” within and outside of TZHS
- For her dedicated volunteer service–240+ hours last summer alone!–Cristina McKiernan received the Senior Award for Outstanding Service
“As you are being celebrated, reflect on what got you here. This is the culmination of a lot of hard work,” noted Principal Rudy Arietta. “But you didn’t get here alone. Remember to thank your parents, your teachers–from elementary school to now–and older siblings, coaches and others who have taught you important lessons.”
