Tappan Zee High School

South Orangetown Middle School and Tappan Zee High School students interested in pursuing an academic course of study not available in their buildings may do so online through Virtual High School at no cost to their families.

Through VHS, students actively participate in a web-based learning environment with students and faculty from across the globe. Courses are asynchronous, so there is no set “class time”; students may engage discussions and work on assignments at times that are most convenient for them.

VHS courses are rigorous and deadline-driven, with homework assignments on a weekly or more frequent basis. High school level classes are listed on student transcripts and grades are included in grade point average calculations. Coordinators Lisa Jacobs (TZHS) and Charles Yassky (SOMS) report that students who tend to be most successful in VHS coursework are self-motivated, responsible and manage their time well.

Registration is now open for 2019-2020 VHS courses. View the VHS course list here. Full-year courses begin September 5, 2019 and end May 8, 2020. Fall semester courses begin September 5, 2019 and end December 18, 2019; spring courses begin January 23, 2020 and end May 7, 2020. Course assignments may be due during SOCSD breaks. Please keep in mind that students may only register for courses not offered in their school.

To register or for more information, TZHS students should email Ms. Jacobs (ljacobs@socsd.org).
