The Tappan Zee High School Music Department is proud to announce that five students have been recognized by the New York State School Music Association as All-State eligible for the 2018 New York All-State Music Festival. Seniors Estelle Lee (oboe) and Yena Shin (piccolo) will perform with the Symphonic Band, seniors Kevin Huang (violin) and Palak Oza (viola) will perform with the Symphonic Orchestra, and junior Erin Sullivan (alto 1) is a Choir alternate.
“We are so honored to have five All-State eligible musicians and very excited for them to have this opportunity to work with great conductors and musicians from across the state,” noted TZHS Music Department Team Leader Bill Hughes.
Auditions for All-State ensembles take place each spring and are highly competitive. Of the many thousands of students who audition statewide, just 350 earn a spot at the All-State Festival. All of the TZHS All-State eligible musicians performed Level VI works (the most difficult), received a score of 100, and were ranked at the top of their instrumental category.
Our musicians will attend the festival in Rochester, November 29-December 2, where they will rehearse up to eight hours a day with some of America’s most renowned conductors. Final performances will take place at the Eastman Theater, one of the country’s major performing halls.
