The Tappan Zee High School Music Department has announced that five students were recognized by the New York State School Music Association as All-State eligible for the 2017 New York All-State Music Festival. Junior Cassandra Bartels (soprano) was selected to perform with the Mixed Chorus. Juniors Estelle Lee (oboe) and Yena Shin (piccolo) were chosen as Band alternates. Juniors Kevin Huang (violin) and Palak Oza (viola) were chosen as Orchestra alternates.
Auditions for the highly-competitive All-State ensembles take place every year in the spring. Of the many thousands of students that audition across the entire state of New York, only 350 reach the All-State Festival. All five of the TZHS All-State eligible students performed level VI works (the highest level of difficulty) and received a score at the top of their instrumental category.
In early December, the students will travel to Rochester, NY to rehearse up to eight hours a day for three days with some of America’s most renowned conductors. The final performances will take place at the Eastman Theater, one of the major performing halls in the United States.
Congratulations to our 2017 NYSSMA All-State eligible musicians!
