On November 22, 2016, F. Robin O’Keefe, Ph.D., a Paleontologist, a Professor of Biological Sciences at Marshall University, and an uncle of one of our sixth grade students, came in to speak to the entire SOMS Sixth Grade Class. His presentation, “Plesiosaurs and Stranger Things” was an absolute hit! Students were engaged and fascinated to learn more about his research on marine reptiles that lived during the age of dinosaurs. He took students through a journey of pictures of his excavations. His slideshow highlighted the process of researching, excavating, and piecing together the remains of fossils that his team discovered on their many trips around the world.  Dr. O’Keefe’s talk could not have come at a better time! Students in science and social studies are studying the topics of inference, archaeology and paleontology, respectively.
