At its May 31 meeting, the Board of Education approved the appointment of Dr. Chad Corey as Interim Principal of South Orangetown Middle School, effective July 1. Current Principal Dr. Karen Tesik will be transitioning to a new role, Interim Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services.
For the past three years, Dr. Corey has served as SOMS Assistant Principal. “Dr. Corey has established himself as a highly visible leader and child advocate in the SOMS community,” says Superintendent Dr. Robert Pritchard.
Prior to joining the South Orangetown Central School District, Dr. Corey spent 13 years at Felix Festa Middle School, first as a music teacher, and then as dean of students. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Ithaca College, a Master of Science degree in Music Education from Central Connecticut State University, a Certificate of Advanced Study in School Leadership from SUNY New Paltz and Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree in K-12 School Administration from Seton Hall University.
“Over the past three years, it’s been exciting to be part of a school community which focuses on a whole child approach to middle level education,” says Dr. Corey. “We’re fortunate to have a talented and dedicated staff and wonderful students and families. I’m looking forward to taking this next step together.”
