Welcome back to an exciting school year! This year’s character education is bursting with color.
September is scarlet red for COURAGE. Starting a new year with new teachers, new classmates and new expectations takes courage. Being brave, making sacrifices, facing fears, admitting mistakes are all ways to show courage.
At our assembly, we learned how ordinary people found the courage to do extraordinary things. Welles Crowther, The Man in the Red Bandanna, was one of many amazing people who were courageous on September 11, 2001.
We all might not be able to be as courageous as Welles, but we can practice small acts of courage. Remember Mrs. King’s warrior words, “I have the power and the courage to be a positive, proactive upstander.” Will you stand up for yourself, stand up for others, make a new friend, try out for a team, develop a skill, audition for a play, speak in front of an audience, ask for help, treat failures as opportunities to grow, etc.?
Post a comment to our class blog on how you will show courage this year.
Welles is very courageous and I know that I probably wont be as courageous as him but, this year I will have the courage to make new friends. Not only will I try to make new friends, but I will be having a piano recital and this is when you play a song in front of people to show them what you can do. for this years recital I will be playing the song Fur Elise. I have done this recital many times but every time I get a little bit nervous.
I think that this year I will try to be courageous by raising my hand more than once a day. I know i will not be as courageous as Welles, but i will try to very courageous this year, and try my hardest to accomplish my goal.
I will try the least to be sleepy and try as hard as I can.
This year I will try to show courage by playing different positions in soccer. I probably won’t be very good at the start but I will try to get better as time comes.
This year I will show courage by asking the teacher for help when I need it.
I also think that I should ask the teacher when I have a problem.
Welles is very courageous and I know this is not as courageous as him but I will try to make new fiends and I will sit next to new people.
This year I want to be courageous, and think of failures as opportunities to grow. Other years, when teachers told me to learn from my mistakes, I would listen, but not do it. This year, I really want to try to do it.
This year, I will have the courage to raise my hand and participate more often. I will try not worry about getting the answers wrong and not get upset if I make mistakes.
This year I will try to be be courageous by making new friends and raising my hand at least once a day.
