The Three Questions

This month we are “wild” about turtles and compassion! Compassion is our word of the month, and we need to show compassion throughout the day. Listen to John Muth’s The Three Questions.

Leo the turtle shares with Nikolai – “Remember then that there is only one important time, and the time is now. The most important one is always the one you are with. And the most important thing is to do good for the one who is standing at your side.”

  • When is the best time to do things? TODAY!
  • Who is the most important one? THE PERSON NEXT TO YOU!
  • What is the right thing to do?” COMPASSION

Use your “game board” to get started. Comment with compassionate acts that you received, and compassionate acts you performed. Show others they are loved!

Valentine’s Challenge

valentines-chocolateMrs. McBride loves her chocolate! Fourth graders are being challenged to put their math and creativity skills to the test.

I bought a box of candy for myself last week. However, by the time I got home I had eaten ¼ of the candies. As I was putting the groceries away, I ate ½ of what was left. There were 6 chocolates left in the box. How many chocolates were in the box to begin with?

TASK for 4th Graders ONLY:
Create a three-dimensional box depicting the appropriate solution. Label the sections of the box accordingly. On the inside cover of your box, be sure to explain all of your thinking.

GUIDELINES:
1. You will be judged on the following categories: presentation, explanation and solution.
2. Make sure your name and homeroom teacher is on your entry.
3. Single entries only, please.
4. Entries must be submitted by Monday, February 13th.

The Power of Words

We just finished our experiment proving that words matter.  We used two apples that were roughly the same shape and size.  We said “kind words” to one apple and “unkind words” to the other apple for about 5 weeks.  As you can see, words are very powerful! Our “bad apple” rotted to the core, while our “good apple” stayed healthy.  The power of our words is something we will never forget!
