We are working on several addition strategies and I thought this poster to help remember our doubles facts. Once we know our double facts, then we are moving onto doubles plus 1. There will be a math game in the homework packet for the children to keep at home to play. Hope this helps and have fun!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Listen to Dave Pilkey's 'Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving. Compare this story to the President's Turkey Pardon of 2012.
Brain Pop, Jr. has a video and quiz about Thanksgiving. Click the image below and see how well you do!
Try Turkey Swap is to switch the locations of the turkeys and the pigs with as few moves as possible. You can move each tile by clicking on it. A tile can be moved to the empty space if the space is immediately beside it, or if there is one tile between it and the space.
What are you thankful for?
The word of the month is gratitude. We have been talking in class about the many things we are thankful for. I am thankful for my family and my friends. I am also very thankful for the fabulous children in my class. I love coming coming to school each day to see all their smiling faces! Wow! I have a lot to be thankful for! What are you thankful for?
Author Visit!
Today we got to meet and learn about the author of the Biscuit series, Alyssa Satin Capucilli! We learned that Alyssa's favorite book that she has written is the very first Biscuit book. She was inspired to create the character, Biscuit, after her daughter babysat their neighbor's dog. It takes Alyssa about 2 years to write a new book. She has a new book, Biscuit Visits the Library, coming out at the end of this year.

Germ Smart
On Monday, we had Devon and Jude's moms come in to teach us all about GERMS! We learned that germs are everywhere and the importance of washing our hands often. We did a little science experiment to show how powerful soap is when fighting germs. We took a pledge to promise to try our best to be GERM SMART!
Thanking our Veterans!
Monday is Veteran's Day. We will spend some time in class talking about what it means to be a Veteran. In an effort to remember and honor our service men/women and our vets, WOS will be doing something special. Next week, we will be taking up a Candy Collection for the troops that is being organized by the Vetiquette program. Any candy sent in from the students can be placed in the bins located in the lobby. The Marine Corps League of Rockland has graciously offered to ship all candy collected to our active troops in Afghanistan. We would like to accompany the candy with cards from the children. To honor the memory of a service member who grew up in Blauvelt, the Vetiquette program is hosting the Lt. Col. Michael Murphy (He is from Blauvelt) Card Campaign & Contest. We hope to make this an annual event each Veteran's Day so the children can learn to show their gratitude for our service members and their families.
Happy Halloween
We had a fun filled day celebrating Halloween! The children looked adorable in their costumes. We loved walking in the parade and our party was a blast! We loved adding stickers to our pumpkins, turning our partners into mummies and our dirt cups were DELICIOUS! Hope everyone has a great time trick or treating this afternoon! Stay safe! Try not to eat all your candy tonight. (We are missing some friends from our class picture.)

Courage and Monsters
Courage is the word of the month at William O. Schaefer. In October, Halloween is celebrated. We can read books about monsters to help us conquer our fears. Most of these monsters aren’t scary but even the cute ones can help us to feel bigger and braver. Read and listen to to Ed Emberley's book, Go Away, Big Green Monster!
Do you have fears at nighttime? Use the skill of telling your fears to go away. Show your fears who's in charge and watch them disappear! Use your courage to face your fears!
Do you need more practice? Here are 19 more monster books to read and enjoy. Click the image.
Courage Assembly
We had a BLAST during our performance on Courage!
