“If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.” ~ Dalai Lama
This month at Cottage Lane we are focusing on compassion. At today’s assembly, we discussed the meaning of compassion and how we can show compassion in school, at home and in the world. Our Compassion Cards encourage us to perform random acts of compassion. From the Smile Train Fundraiser to Valentine’s for Veterans, our compassion can make a difference in the lives of others.
Our book of the month, Each Kindness by Jacqueline Woodson, gives a lesson about how even small acts of kindness can change the world. The main character realizes the lost opportunity for friendship and thinks about how much better it could have been if a little compassion was shown toward others.
Remember…Don’t be a wrinkle in someone else’s heart. Instead…make time this month to complete your compassion cards. Together we can fill our hallway heart!

Compassion means to feel bad for people who are suffering. It means to be kind to others, and not just care about yourself.
Compassion means to go inside other peoples shoes and know how there feeling and be there for them. Like if you see somebody playing alone on the playground play with them. Or if sombody is sitting alone on the bus or at lunch because of there outsides sit with them or find ways for you to sit with them. Showing compassion can be big or can be small a big way of showing compassion is to if somebody does not have any friends but you have a group of friends say I am going to play with them today or give food to the homeless. A small way to show compassion is if somebody gets hurt and starts crying say I been there here let me help or if somebody missed a lot of days of school and is really behind say you want some help and if they say yes then you help them instead of doing your extra work. So that is compassion!
Compassion to me means to always be kind to others and to show respect.
compassion is when you are there for someone who they are are hurt or need help!
Compassion is showing kindness to other people not just yourself and putting yourself into other peoples shoes.
Compassion is showing kindness to other people not just yourself and putting yourself in somebody else’s shoes.
Compassion is about showing kindness and not being mean and that means NOT saying at recess when someone is alone; “Oh sorry our game is full”and discluding that person thats the opposite of compassion.
Compassion is being there for someone who is sick, hurt or in need. I feel Compassion for my little cousin who is not feeling well.
compassion is showing kindess to other people when they are sad and hurt

Compassion is being nice to other people and not being selfish. It is also not making first judgement on somebody depending on what you see… it is about who they really are. One look can change the world… and your compassion can turn around someone else’s day.
compassion is to be nice or kind to someone who is going throw hard times.
Sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortune of others
I think that compassion means to feel bad for the hungry, hurt, lonely or sick. I think we are donating to Smile Train to show compassion for the hurt/sick. I think that compassion is sort of like empethy because you have to feel how other people feel. In the book, Each Kindness, Chloe didn’t show compassion to Maya.
Feeling bad for someone and feeling for them that is what compassion is.
Compassion means to feel bad for someone . Like if someone is sitting by there self at recess . Maybe you could go and play with them so they wouldn’t be alone . Or if someone is getting bullied maybe you could stand up for them .
In the book each kindness Chloe is not being nice to mia and also just because mia has ragged clothes does not mean that she can be judged by the outside of her .Chloe is really not showing compassion, compassion means to be there for other help other show kindness.
Compassion means being kind to people who are in need.
