- Nomad– a member of a group of people who move from one place to another, rather than living in one place all of the time. The First Americans were hunters and gatherers.
- Ice Age– a time in the past when the temperature was very cold and glaciers (large masses of ice) covered large parts of the earth. 20,000 years ago the First Americans experienced an Ice Age which led them to North America in search of food.
- Beringia– Ancient land bridge connecting Asia and North America. Sea levels were lower as a result of the Ice Age.
- Adapt– To adjust to different conditions or uses, or to change to meet different situations.
- Culture– The customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation or group of people. Culture is your way of life.
