National Cleaning Week

I was happy to hear this week is National Cleaning Week.  Do one thing new in your house to help your parents clean.  I plan to teach Ryan how to do a load of laundry.   I plan to teach Paige how to empty the dishwasher.  If they begin doing these things as chores, what do you think a fair amount is to pay them? Or, do you think they should just do it and not get paid?  This is a great, respectful debate!! Please share your thoughts!

PS… Dylan I would just for him to get out of his Spiderman feeties a bit more! LOL

      10. I helped my mom make food
BTW for my chapter books should I make it a different character every book or the same character every book?

  2. I don’t think you should give them money. In the future when they own a house, they aren’t having someone to pay them to clean it…They might not clean their stuff without someone to bribe em’. Say you did pay them but, one day you didn’t, they might complain where the money is. I used to do this thing with my parents so when I finished a work book I would get 5 dollars. One day(A.K.A. a year ago) my mom stopped giving me money after I finished a work book, by now I should have a couple ten dollar bills from her right now. This month my brother asked where his 5 dollars was after he completed a work book. He started complaining because he was supposed to get 5 dollars. Mrs.Caunitz honestly I think you should not give them money. It’s not your fault if their future house is messy, they have to take responsibility and say ” I will clean and take responsibility of my own stuff! “. Here are some ways(that I brainstormed) to get kids to clean while they have fun without having to breathe a word about money.
    1. For laundry tell your kids that they are playing a mix-and-match game(Sorry but it only works with socks…I think). Tell them to make pairs of socks that are the same color and size in a neat straight pile. You just have to do the folding parts for the socks.
    2. If you have a indoor mini basket ball hoop(or trash can) tell them to try to throw garbage into the hoop or trash can. If they miss tell them to pick it up and try again! Remember(if your’e using a mini basketball hoop) to tape a trash bag around the hoop.
    3. Tell them to try and clean up a certain room quickly without breaking anything or messing it up. Time how fast they clean it and encourage them to try and clean faster. Go to another room and clean/time it. But before you start cleaning the room ask them if you could beat the score quicker and better next time!

  3. I’m going to clean/dust my desk and clean my bed, I’m going to clean/dust my dresser and I’m going to clean/dust my night table.Or at least I’m going to try!
For the question if you should pay them (Mrs.Caunitz) I think you should stick to not giving them money for just a fair amount of time (like 2 weeks) and then when their getting into the habit of doing their chores, I think a fair amount of money should be $5 a week. But on the other hand,I also see why you shouldn’t give them money(like Kate said)Those are my thoughts about whether or not you should pay Ryan and Paige. It’s your choice……

  4. I have been doing some dishes, making my bed, feeding the fish, cleaning the playroom and cooking with my dad! I don’t think they should get paid, chores are just a thing you have to get used too!

  6. Thank you everyone for your feedback. RYAN and PAIGE will not get paid:) Keep helping your families out!! Do something above and beyond to make someone in your family say, “WOW, I cannot believe you did that without me even asking.”
