May is Patriotism
May is for the bald eagle and patriotism.
“If we love our country, we should also love our countrymen.” — President Ronald Reagan
What does it mean to show Patriotism?
- Patriotism is the devotion to one’s country
- Patriotism is the love, support, and defense of one’s country
- Patriotism is the willingness to help one’s country
“And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you–ask what you can do for your country.” — President John F. Kennedy
Activity
Vetiquette is a character education program that teaches children the importance of showing gratitude for our veterans and particularly for Gold Star Families (families that have lost an immediate family member in service to our country).
For a second year at CLE, Vetiquette is hosting a service project to honor another 30 fallen service members. Each class received:
- the biography of a different service member who died, and
- materials to create a tribute quilt which will be gifted to the service member’s family
Many thanks to our Cottage Lane staff, teachers and students for making this happen.
More heroes to remember! We thank you.
