The following letter has been backpacked home today, May 6, 2016

Dear Parents,

The responsibility of forming balanced classes is taken very seriously. The knowledge acquired from each child’s teacher about how that child functions and interacts in the school setting is given primary consideration in the process of creating next year’s classes. Heterogeneous groups will be developed, based upon consideration of academic and social factors, in order to create balanced classes. All of the teachers at Cottage Lane are highly skilled professionals and every class learns the same curriculum of that grade level.

The formation of classes is the responsibility of our professional staff, and it is expected that parents not request a specific teacher. Doing so would create situations in which it appears that some families are treated unfairly in order to please others. The one exception to this policy regarding teachers is if you would prefer that your child have a different experience than an older sibling, please be sure to share that with us. If you have a concern regarding your child being in class with another individual please let us know. In addition, if there was a documented incident in a previous year and you want it to be considered, it’s important that you restate it in a letter.

Please forward these letters to us, in writing, no later than Friday, May 13th. You can email me at KRamirez or send in a hard copy.

Philosophically, elementary school years are a time when children learn to interact with a variety of people. These years are a time when friendships and social experiences are broadened rather than narrowed, especially since there are always opportunities for existing friendships to continue both in and out of school.

We want to thank you in advance for your help and support in making next year’s placement a smooth transition for your child.

Sincerely,

Karen Ramirez
