Cottage Lane Elementary School

The South Orangetown Central School District is expanding its supports for students through the launch of Anonymous Alerts®, a free app to report incidents of bullying, cyberbullying, harassment, hazing, drug or alcohol use during school, and/or vaping or Juuling during school.

Anonymous Alerts® is being introduced in addition to the Help Card, which was rolled out districtwide in the fall, as more than a third of the nearly 1,400 secondary student participants responded that they would use a mobile app to report bullying in the district’s 2017 community survey.

Although students and parents are encouraged to continue reaching out directly to school staff for help, this new tool offers one more pathway to communicate safety concerns.

If a child is in crisis or requires immediate assistance, or to report serious matters that are disturbing or life-threatening, call 911. Anonymous Alerts® will be monitored only between the hours of 8:30am-3:30pm on days when school is in session.

What is Anonymous Alerts®?
Anonymous Alerts® is a reporting system for students who witness or are the victim of bullying, cyberbullying, harassment, hazing, drug or alcohol use, and/or vaping or Juuling on school grounds or school buses, or at school-sponsored events.

How does Anonymous Alerts® work?
The system allows for one- or two-way, anonymous encrypted communications between submitters (students or parents) and district administration and/or school staff. Users have the option to remain anonymous when submitting a report.
