In science we have been learning about environmental factors that cause pollution and the effects of polluted water on the environment. Students are practicing being environmental engineers by addressing a pollution problem in the water and discovering ways to filter the water so that it is cleaner. In these pictures, they are testing different filters to gain knowledge of how filters work and which ones are most effective. Our criteria for judging each filter was based on the amount of particles in the water, the color, and the amount of time it took. The three filters they tested were a screen, a coffee filter, and a sand & gravel mix. Their next step, is to use this information to design their own filtration system.

It was really cool when the sand and gravel worked the best.I didn’t even know that it could be a filter.I had so much fun using all the different types of filters and cleaning the contaminated water.
I also thought that sand and gravel wasnt going to work!it was so weird!
i think it was soooooooooo much fun when we tried out all of the different tipes of water filters.
