Today we talked about the importance of using adjectives in our writing to paint a clear picture with our words. If our writing is not descriptive, our readers may get confused when reading our work or picture something completely different.
Tonight, we want you to practice using adjectives in your writing.
Here is your challenge: Pick a scene or an object you want to describe. Write a couple of sentences to describe your object or scene without saying exactly what it is.
Our job as readers will be to try and figure out what you are describing.
I will start as an example.
Yesterday we stopped for dinner on our way home from Hershey. See if you can picture what my kids ate for dinner based on my descriptions…
When their dinner arrived at the table, it came on a large silver plate. The meal was a round shape and the base was made of thick dough. On top of the dough, it was steaming with red hot sauce and on top of that was yellow melted cheese. The smell was delicious. There were about 10 smaller circles on top of the cheese. They were a purple, reddish kind of color and they were shiny with grease from when it had been in the oven.
