Fifteen Tappan Zee High School senior student-athletes who have committed to playing sports at the collegiate level signed symbolic letters of intent at the TZ Athletics Signing Day Ceremony this afternoon.

“We are incredibly proud of what these athletes have accomplished and that they are planning to pursue athletics and academics at the next level,” said Director of Physical Education, Health and Athletics Bill Pilla.

According to the National Collegiate Athletic Association, just six percent of students nationwide who play high school sports go on to compete in any NCAA division program. We proudly celebrate our TZHS senior student-athletes who have achieved this exceptional milestone:

Hillary Abankwa, Binghamton University (Girls Track & Field)
Stephen Barikyan, SUNY Oneonta (Boys Lacrosse)
Gerry Caltagirone, University of Maryland – Baltimore Campus (Boys Lacrosse)
Emma Carolan, Binghamton University (Girls Swimming)
Ryan Folmer, St. Thomas Aquinas College (Boys Track & Field)
Hannah Hely, Cornell University (Rowing)
Patrick O’Sullivan, DeSales University (Boys Lacrosse)
Joey Parisi, Pace University (Boys Lacrosse)
Shannon Phelan, Mount St. Mary’s College (Girls Basketball)
Kyle Roper, SUNY Oneonta (Baseball)
Logan Stark, Marist College (Baseball)
Deirdre Sullivan, SUNY Cortland (Girls Cross Country/Track & Field)
Sean Sullivan, Dominican College (Boys Lacrosse)
Andrew Tarpey, SUNY Cortland (Football)
Emily Zona, Salisbury University (Girls Track & Field)

“This is a source of pride and inspiration for all of us. These athletes exemplify who we are all capable of becoming when we give our best effort and keep a positive attitude,” noted Superintendent of Schools Robert Pritchard, Ed.D., who congratulated the athletes as they waited to be called onto the high school’s multipurpose field. “It’s heartwarming to see so many families and loved ones in attendance today. Go Dutchmen!”
