Curriculum and Instruction

First grade scientists at WOS are studying the patterns of the sun throughout the day by creating models with flashlights. Students are also observing the movement of shadows outside while creating sundials out of straws, sticks and playdough. Their next stop – THE MOON!  Third grade scientists at CLE are becoming engineers while solving household problems by using the power of magnets.  Some of the problems students are working on engineering solutions for are, how to keep gates closed on windy days and how to create a device to help family members keep track of their keys. Fifth grade scientists just completed their chemistry unit with a BANG by combining baking soda and vinegar and observing how this chemical reaction changed the pH of the ingredients from acidic to neutral. Both in-person and remote students participated in these activities because their teachers planned ahead by preparing and sending materials and supplies home.
