The children worked diligently earning the 50 marbles needed by acting in a kind and caring manner, showing respect to classmates, always doing our best, smiling and thinking in a positive way.  We celebrated with a pajama and stuffed animal day for our first STAR class event.   Take a look at the children reading to their stuffed animal at Readers Workshop

The children worked in collaborative groups on the blueprints for their bridge design. Using the kinds of materials tested in the science lab in previous lessons and following the blueprint, they were able to construct the bridges.  Here are pictures of the children at work building their bridges.  We will complete the bridges and post pictures of the final product.

We had a special guest visitor today.  Mrs. Maloney, Jake’s mom, came to our class to read the story The Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett.  She brought in a special gingerbread craft project for the children to complete.  Take a look at the photos.

We had guest presenters today in our class. Ms. Fleming (Arthur’s mom) and Mrs. Bogart (Brian’s mom) came to teach us about being “Germ Smart”. We learned how germs spread and what we can do to keep ourselves healthy. When we wash our hands we must use soap and warm water. We learned that if we sing the ABC song as we wash, it will take the 20 seconds needed wash away those bad germs. We took a pledge to be “Germ Smart”.

The fire fighters from our local fire departments came to WOS today. The children had an opportunity to see the trucks and equipment up close. The fire fighters talked about the equipment they use and fire prevention. Talk with your child about this and be sure to make a family plan in case of a fire or any emergency that may occur.

We took a nature walk around our school. We noticed and observed signs that autumn is here. The children found leaves, seeds and pine cones. Now we will use the items we collected to write like scientists.
