  1. I turned off the water while washing dishes last night and saved quite a bit of water. I’m looking forward to trying to save more water tonight.

  2. One of the challenges I did was “Go with the flow”. I feel that the process is going great. One of the problems I had was my sister. She doesn’t like not flushing. Saving water makes me feel good! Maybe people can try doing the laundary less.

    • Zack, some times I do the laundry thing also. In the summer, when it is really hot out my mom will usually hang the clothes on a piece of string outside.

    • Great idea, Zachary. Thanks for suggesting the laundry-water reduction. Actually, many sources recommend that people only wash full loads of laundry and dishes. That way, the same amount of water is used to clean a greater number of clothes and dishes.

  3. I have not been wasting water when I brush my teeth. I’m happy that we’re saving water because were not wasting water. I thought maybe to also help us not waste water is when we are washing fruits and vegetables, when we go to grab the next fruit or veggie we can stop the water so the waters not running.

  4. I have been taking shorter showers and less baths. When I have been brushing my teeth, I turn off the water until I am ready to rinse my toothbrush.

    • I wish I could say that I had the same experience. A leak we thought we fixed is dripping again. ARGH!!!!! We’ll get right on it.

  5. I found that the go with the flow challenge was difficult, because I had to convince my brother to do it.I feel so happy that I am not wasting as much water as I did before.I also did the dishes to wet them and then dry them.

  6. I chose go with the flow, some challenges I am facing are that it is hard to get my family to do it.My actions are helping me do more things to save water.I realized how important it is to save water and I am very happy of my actions.my suggestion is don’t fill up your water bottle if your not going to drink it

  7. Zach sabatini I have the same problem that you have I cant get my family to do it but I think they are getting what I am trying to say

  8. I started to take 5-8 minutes in the shower instead of taking 15 or 20 minutes in the shower. It is hard because I like to take my time when I shower but it’s nice to know that your helping the environment. I also did ” Go with the flow.” At first I thought it was gross, but then you see that you are saving so much water. My family usually starts “Go with the flow” in the morning because we are in a hurry.

  9. I started to not flush the toilet as much as usual because I started to try “If it’s yellow let it mellow, if its brown flush it down.” I am starting to do go with the flow. I feel this is a little bit challenging because flushing the toilet is a habit for me but so far I have been doing good with this.

  10. I’ve been taking shorter showers (3-5 mins long in average), and so has most of my family. My older sister is not necessarily listening, but I’ll keep trying to convince her. I also turn off the water when I’m brushing my teeth. I’m thinking about putting a container of some sort under the sink when I’m brushing, to see how much water I use, like mrs. O’Brien suggested. I’m also considering asking my parents to take me down to a body of water soon, so I can get a nice view of water.

    • My suggestion – listen to the song, “Take me to the river…Drop me in the water” and then sing the refrain to your parents. They’ll be sure to take you to some body of water soon.

  11. This morning I was brushing my teeth, and I was about to leave the water on, but before I put the toothbrush in my mouth I quickly turned off the water. I am currently trying to see what I can do about using less water! I think my biggest challenge will be taking shorter showers, but I do it during sleepover camp so I am used to it and I will try it more at home. Also, I will try to make every time Im using water, count!

  12. I’m surprised my family agreed to do same things I thought they weren’t going to agree with. I’m also surprised that my said no to the only thing I thought they were going to do.

    • Great! I just read in The Water Cycle, the book I found in our classroom collection, that “Americans will use 5 billion gallons of water today just flushing toilets. U.S. manufacturers are now required to produce high-efficiency toilets which use 1.6 gallons per flush instead of the usual 5-7 gallons. By the year 2020, most homes in the United States will be using high-efficiency toilets at a daily savings of 7.8 billion gallons of water.” Your family is already on target.

  13. Today I tried if I could if take a 10 minute shower while washing my hair, which usually takes me a half an hour. I put the timer on and the race began. It only took me 8 minutes. I am excited and know that if I put my heart to it I can save the earth!

  14. I’m going to take shorter showers and, if I my water bottle from school still has water in it, I will try to not pour it down the drain. Instead I would fill it with more water, put it in the fridge and, save it for tomorrows school day or for a softball game.

  15. I was surprised my parents are going along with some of these activities. I thought it was going to be hard for me to take a five minute shower because I take twenty minute showers. I also have been relising how water is so important in our lives.

  16. I have for example, turned off the faucet while washing my teeth, sitting and enjoying nature, and I have also saved gallons of water on the let it mellow saying, and it is especially important to conserve water, and happy that I am helping to do so. Also, Ms O’brien, smart idea on the water conservation. We all need to change our bad habits.

  17. I have took shorter showers and I did the “Go with the Flow” challenge and 2 more. I realized that taking shorter showers isn’t THAT bad.

  18. We are getting a low-flow shower head and sink head. I am also trying to convince my family to go by the “If it’s yellow let it mellow, if it’s brown flush it down” motto.

  19. I have been taking 5 min. showers and i am surprised by how much water i am saving. I have also been turning off the water while brushing my teeth.
