Five Tappan Zee High School students have been nominated for Metropolitan High School Theatre Awards for their participation in this year’s spring musical, “Spamalot!”

 Congratulations to:

*Outstanding performance of a duet: Daniel L. as Sir Galahad and Kiki Z. as The Lady of the Lake singing “The Song That Goes Like This”

*Outstanding vocal performance by a female-identifying performer: Kiki Z. as The Lady of the Lake

*Outstanding dance performance by a female-identifying performer: Meline K. as Not-Dead-Fred

*Outstanding achievement in graphic design: Ava B. and Maryn M.

Many of the TZ Players have been performing for most of their lives and are grateful to be recognized for their work. “I have been dancing since I was three years old and I have performed in all of the shows at SOMS and TZHS. I have always loved being on the stage and being involved in TZ Players has been such a great experience,” said senior Meline.

Sophomores Kiki and Daniel were nominated for their performance as a duet and shared their appreciation for being nominated, especially as sophomores. Kiki said, “I have been doing theater since I was in third grade so being recognized for something that I love is a big deal. I am really honored and so surprised.” Daniel noted, “It feels important because it’s my favorite show that I have ever done and it’s with my favorite group of people. I’m so glad that it’s this group that is being recognized for their work.”

Seniors Ava and Maryn will both be attending Savannah College of Art and Design, where they will study animation and they were nominated for their “Spamalot” poster design. Ava B. said, “We worked really hard on the poster we created! We have been designing the posters for the past few productions including last year’s spring musical ‘The Addams Family’ and ‘Clue’ in the fall.” Maryn added, “What was really cool is that the illustrations are based off of what the actual students in the production look like so it feels more personalized.”

The Metropolitan High School Theatre Awards evaluate participating school musicals from Westchester, Bergen, Rockland and Putnam counties. The awards ceremony will be held June 12 at Tarrytown Music Hall. The event will be livestreamed by Lohud.
