The search is over! The Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of Brian Culot, Ed.D. as Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1. “After an extensive national search, the Board of Education is excited that Dr. Culot will be our next Superintendent of Schools! Dr. Culot is a proven leader who will lead our district with commitment, compassion and collaboration,” said Board of Education President Dana Stilley, Ph.D.
The Board has been impressed by, and incredibly proud of, the hard work and accomplishments of our District’s students, faculty and coaches/advisors throughout this school year. Earlier this month, the Board recognized Tappan Zee High School’s New York State Champions and hosted a presentation and demonstration by SO BOTZ, TZHS’ FIRST Robotics Competition team.

Budget Vote and Board Election: Thanks to strong community support, the 2023-24 school budget passed with 70% voter approval on May 16. Katie Gravino and Diana Korabel were elected to the Board; their three-year terms will begin July 1, 2023 and end June 30, 2026.
Capital Projects: The District’s architect and construction manager presented an update on upcoming Summer 2023 minor capital work, the Capital Improvements Bond Project, the Smart Schools Bond Project and SOMS Pool Repair. View the presentation here.
Policy: Following final readings, the Board reviewed and unanimously readopted revised Policies 2360 (Minutes) and 5225 (Student Personal Expression) on May 9. First readings were conducted for Policies 6300 (Fund Balance), 6830 (Expense Reimbursement) and 6691 (Capital Assets Accounting). Drafts of a new policy governing school volunteers and existing Policy 8130 – School Safety Plans and Teams are in progress.
