Tappan Zee High School’s La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica Capítulo Tito Puente hosted its bi-annual Acoustic Underground event last Friday night!

Hosted in the fall and spring, Acoustic Underground features a variety of musical performances by students and faculty. Performances included original music and covers of classic songs by Prince, Tom Petty and The Doors.

“I love this event because you get to see a lot of talent that you wouldn’t necessarily know is sitting right across from you in the classroom,” said honor society co-advisor and World Language teacher Odette Santiago.

Honor society members are responsible for recruiting performers, creating a set list, working with custodial staff to set up the band room and bringing refreshments. “It’s always such a great experience to see our students perform and express their talent,” explained honor society co-advisor and World Language teacher Kristy Walsh.

Spanish Honor Society President Ally L. and Vice President Monica R. were grateful for the opportunity to host this event alongside their classmates as they are getting ready to graduate.

“It was honestly a life-changing experience to attend Acoustic Underground as a freshman. It was incredible to see how our school community came together. Now as a senior and Vice President, I am so happy to be a part of this,” said Monica.

“The best part is really seeing how as an honor society, we are able to collectively pull this event together,” added Ally.

Proceeds from the ticket sales will support World Language Department scholarships for graduating Spanish Honor Society officers and senior members.
