How Are Fiction Books Arranged?

Fiction books are stories that are invented, made up or imagined. The fiction books on the library shelves are arranged in alphabetic (ABC) order according to the author’s last name or surname.

For example, some of my favorite books are written by Patricia Polacco. All of her book will have the letter “P” on the spine. The call number will also be on the spine, E POL. E tells you the book is a picture book and POL tells you the first three letters of the author’s last name.

Practice your alphabetizing skills with the activities below.
