Perimeter is the distance around a two-dimensional shape. Example: the perimeter of this rectangle is 3+7+3+7 = 20. The perimeter of a circle is called the circumference.
Your task:
- You will need a ruler, a pencil, an eraser.
- You will create pens for the different animals that live on the farm according to the measurements below.
- You will work in a group.
- READ THE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY!
- Your pens will be inspected by Farm Inspector # 1. If they are not up to standard your animals will not be able to move in!
Group 1: Pig Pen
- This enclosure must have a perimeter of 200 cm.
- It should have a fence around it.
- Inside the pen build a small house with a perimeter of 80 cm for the pigs to live.
Group 2: Horse Stable
- This enclosure should have a perimeter of 80 inches. It must have sturdy walls.
- The two horses that live in here would like to have a stall each.
- The perimeter of each stall should be 30 inches.
Group 3: Chicken Yard
- This enclosure should have a perimeter of 72 inches.
- It must have a fence around it.
- The hens get quite scared at night and would like to have a small house to roost.
- Their house should have a perimeter of 24 inches.
Group 4: Duck Pond
- This pond should have a perimeter of 48 inches. It must have a fence around it.
- The ducks have requested a square fountain in the center that has a perimeter of 16 inches.
Group 5: Cow Pasture
- This enclosure should have a perimeter of 90 inches. It must have a fence.
- The twelve cows that live in here would like to have a water trough.
- The perimeter of trough should be 40 inches.
Group 6: Goat Yard
- This enclosure must have a perimeter of 175 cm.
- It should have a fence around it.
- Inside the pen build a small house with a perimeter of 75 cm for the goats to live in and stand on.
