Crowds lined up for the second annual K- Grade 5 Family Wellness Night at William O. Schaefer Elementary School yesterday!
“We are grateful that our school community cares so much and wants to learn about the different mindfulness strategies that we use everyday in the classroom,” said Cottage Lane Elementary School Assistant Principal Rob Schliessman. “Stress is not limited to the classroom and reinforcement at home helps students develop coping skills for the future.”
“The teachers brought a range of mindful habits from their own teaching practice and lives to share with students,” added WOS Assistant Principal Maggie White. “It was so nice to see the students try out these routines on their own and walk away with the tools they can apply at school and home.”
Students and their families explored interactive stations featuring a variety of mindfulness tools and techniques, including games, books, exercises, sensory strategies and sound healing.
“We start with a mindful moment right after the Pledge of Allegiance,” explained CLE School Psychologist Linda King, “Every week has a new mantra that involves inward and outward expressions for students to reflect on such as ‘be kind to yourself’ or ‘share with those in need.’”
