This morning, William O. Schaefer Elementary School students welcomed two dozen local veterans, including Superintendent Dr. Robert Pritchard (U.S. Army) and Grade 2 teacher Christopher Speno (U.S. Marine Corps), for New York State Senator David Carlucci’s annual Valentines for Vets celebration.
In preparation for the big event, students made valentines, practiced songs and created a video for the visiting veterans. One student remarked, “Veterans are brave, thoughtful, caring and a lot of other nice words.” As part of the special assembly, students escorted veterans to their seats and presented them with valentines.
“It’s an honor to serve you in the State Senate and to be here today,” Senator Carlucci told the veterans.
Special thanks to teachers Soleidy Estevez, Beth Fox, Danelle Greene, Denise Healy, Carol Kuhn, Suzanne Luke, Randi Nerkizian, Elizabeth Piteo, Lisa Savarese, Christopher Speno and their students, for planning the Valentines for Veterans assembly and to SOCES PTA for sponsoring breakfast for our veterans!
