It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome you and your child to kindergarten at William O. Schaefer Elementary School! Kindergarten is an exciting time for both parents and children. We are extremely proud of our kindergarten program. We have caring, expert teaching staff that allows us to provide each and every child with a solid academic foundation in a warm nurturing environment.
2019-20 Kindergarten Registration
Click here to begin the online registration process for the 2019-20 school year. Registration must be completed by Thursday, April 18, to secure your child’s screening date.
To register your child, you will need to provide Proof of Birth, Proof of Immunization and Proof of Residency. You can view details about documents needed for student registration on the district website. This documentation can be dropped off at William O. Schaefer during our Kindergarten Registration Assistance dates:
- Wednesday, February 27, 6:00-8:00pm
- Tuesday, March 19, 6:00–8:00pm
- Friday, March 22, 9:15am-3:00 pm
Class Placement & Kindergarten Screening
Class placement is undoubtedly one of the most important tasks we do. We take the placement process seriously and work very hard and thoughtfully to establish a learning environment that will be the most beneficial for all children. Classes are assembled heterogeneously and many facts are taken into consideration. It is important that you complete the parent input form, which you will receive at the kindergarten screening in May. Please indicate any concerns about your child’s development and some additional information on your feedback sheet. Since you are the first and best teachers of your children, we truly value this information. We also ask that you give us permission to contact your child’s preschool program to gain additional insights.
New York State requires that all kindergarten students be screened. The screenings will take place on Monday, May 6, through Friday, May 10, 2019. Once you’ve registered your child, you will be notified by mail of your child’s date and time. The screening and tour of the building will last for approximately an hour and a half.

Our school hours are 9:15am-3:30pm, with the children arriving at 9:00 am.
