William O. Schaefer Elementary School

More than 100 K-5 families got their STEM on at SOCES Family Science Night on October 24! Nearly a dozen William O. Schaefer Elementary School and Cottage Lane Elementary School teachers led exciting, hands-on activities, from bridge-building and balloon rockets to kite-making and pond life identification.

“As coaches and teachers, we feel these family nights are really beneficial because they allow parents and students to work together to accomplish specific tasks in a fun and engaging way,” says K-8 Instructional Science Coach Samantha Levine. “Parents learn more about what students are doing in school and get a chance to see their children as scientists, engineers, mathematicians, writers, etc. Science Night specifically encourages students’ natural curiosity to be tapped and allows for home extensions.” See the district Facebook post for more photos.

SOCES families, keep an eye on your inboxes: Information about the K-5 Family Tech, Toys & Gadgets Night on November 14 at Cottage Lane Elementary School will be emailed early next week.
