On Tuesday, William O. Schaefer Elementary School, South Orangetown Middle School and Tappan Zee High School art classes and TZ COVE students, “planted” handmade pinwheels decorated with messages of peace as part of Pinwheels for Peace, a global art and literacy project honoring the International Day of Peace.

Art teacher Elizabeth Piteo brought the Pinwheels for Peace project to WOS last year and reached out to colleagues in other buildings to share the concept, which was embraced this year by art teachers Leigh LaBrake (at WOS), Allison Meyer and Tatiana DiPierno (SOMS), and Donna Grasso (TZHS).

“We are using our art powers to spread peace, love and happiness throughout the world!” says Mrs. Piteo.
