Eighty-eight Tappan Zee High School students earned 2020 AP Scholar Awards for “outstanding college-level achievement through their performance on multiple AP exams,” over the course of their high school careers.
“Having such a large number of AP Scholars is a testament to the hard work and dedication of both our students and our teachers. Our students have diverse academic interests and I’m thankful that our District is committed to offering a wide range of AP courses. Their achievement on these exams is reflective of our students’ willingness to meet the high level of expectations set by the College Board and our faculty,” said Principal Rudy Arietta. “It’s also important to note that our number of AP Scholars did not decrease despite the challenges faced by finishing the year in a distance learning model. Great job by both students and teachers!

Tappan Zee High School offers more than 20 AP courses, spanning art and art history, computer science, English, history, math, sciences and world languages. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the College Board modified the testing schedule, format and content to administer the May 2020 AP Exams online, which created additional challenges for students. TZHS offered remote “learning institutes” led by AP teachers during the school closure to help students prepare for the new exams.
