Tappan Zee High School

On Friday, Board of Education member Christine Lee shared career experience and college advice with freshmen and sophomores in Tappan Zee High School’s 13-year-old Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Engineering program. “Ms. Lee’s real world experience connects directly to our current unit, which requires students to research engineering fields and careers,” explained PLTW teacher Nicholas Desantis. “Her insights were relevant to what we are learning and students were fully engaged.”

Lee possesses more than 30 years’ corporate sector experience in roles spanning engineering, research and development, global sustainability and operations. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Rutgers University School of Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Management from Stevens Institute of Technology. She urged aspiring engineers to persevere through challenging coursework, develop strong communication skills and seek opportunities to work both collaboratively and independently.

South Orangetown students have the opportunity to take high school engineering coursework beginning in eighth-grade. The PLTW program encompasses Intro to Engineering Design, Principles of Engineering, Civil Engineering and Architecture and Aerospace Engineering, as well as Digital Electronics and capstone courses. Check out the Technology section of the TZHS Curriculum Guide for more information about PLTW offerings.
