Tappan Zee High School

Tappan Zee High School seniors Sean Costello and Patrick Daly, both members of Boy Scout Troop 37 in Pearl River, were recognized by Superintendent Dr. Robert Pritchard and the Board of Education on May 21 for achieving Eagle Scout rank. (Patrick was unable to attend.) “This is a very significant achievement,” noted Dr. Pritchard. “It’s no easy feat to earn your Eagle Scout rank. It requires patience, persistence, dedication and commitment…and that comes from within.”

For his Eagle Scout project, Sean restored two cannons and installed pavers at the John M. Perry American Legion Post #1044. “I wanted to bring more recognition to veterans,” he explained. Sean opted to paint the refurbished cannons “desert tan to bring more attention to veterans of recent conflicts.”

A member of the National Honor Society and the French Honor Society and DECA Vice President, Patrick built an arbor with benches and hooks for children’s backpacks at the entrance to the playground at Prince of Peace Preschool in Old Tappan for his Eagle Scout project. He is headed to Babson College, where he plans to major in entrepreneurship and finance. “Earning Eagle Scout rank was the culmination of the hard work I put in over the years,” Patrick said.

Sean, who will study civil engineering at the University of Maryland this fall, began scouting as a Cub Scout in first grade. At TZHS, he is Varsity Swim Team Captain, Leo Club Vice President, and a member of both the National Honor Society and Italian Honor Society. “I’ve been part of many extracurriculars and Boy Scouts is one of the greatest activities I’ve ever done,” he reflected. “Leading my fellow Boy Scouts, being part of a brotherhood and learning to stand together…I’ve learned a lot of life lessons.”

Congratulations, Sean and Patrick!
