Tappan Zee High School

Congratulations to Tappan Zee High School junior Cassandra Bartels, who was selected for the 2018 All-National Honor Mixed Choir!

Cassie is the first TZHS student to earn All-National honors and will perform in the National Association for Music Education All-National Honor Ensembles program at Walt Disney World in Orlando, November 25-28. To audition for All-Nationals, student-musicians must have been selected to participate in All-State the previous school year and submit a video of themselves performing an additional required selection, unaccompanied, in addition to several vocalises demonstrating their vocal range, technique and intonation.

“I am thrilled to see Cassie be recognized with this superior distinction of honor,” commented TZHS Director of Choral Activities Russell Wagoner. “Cassie has worked tirelessly for the past several years to hone her singing and sight-reading skills in order to reach this level of mastery. She is a testament to what we in the TZ Music Department strive to instill in our students: When you work for excellence, you can achieve amazing goals. I’m very proud of her and I know this choral experience will develop her musical talents even further.”

Cassie, who also plays trombone, began singing in fifth grade. In middle school, she was a member of both band and chorus. At TZHS, Cassie is a member of band, chorus and orchestra, Bella Acapella and Tzers–and is involved with a music program outside of the school, as well. “Having a music class everyday helped me become better,” she says. “Each group has a different way of performance or expression.”

The most important lesson Cassie has learned through her music experience? “To just stick with it. The perseverance you learn through music applies to everything else.”
