Dr. Solomon is a Rockland County native and a graduate of Suffern High School. She completed a double major in both Spanish and Secondary Education at the State University of New York at Oswego in 1990. Upon completion of her undergraduate education she began her work in the South Orangetown Central School District as a Spanish teacher. In 1993, she completed a master’s degree in Secondary Education with a concentration in Spanish at the State University of New York at New Paltz. Her interest in learning styles and instruction brought her to St. John’s University where she completed a doctoral degree in Instructional Leadership in 2005 under the tutelage of Dr. Rita Dunn (one of the pioneers of learning-styles theory). Her involvement in the doctoral program at St. John’s afforded her the opportunity to work as a consultant for the Center of Teaching and Learning Styles at local, state, and international levels. In addition to teacher training she has done in her local school district, Dr. Solomon has worked with the teachers throughout the New York metropolitan area, the New Orleans’ public schools system, the Monroe County public schools throughout the Florida Keys, and with teachers from over 30 countries at annual conferences for Teaching and Learning Styles. Her current passion of study is Second-Language Acquisition, and she works with a cohort of teachers from all over the country implementing research-based best practices within the classroom to facilitate the students’ acquisition of Spanish. Dr. Solomon completed her 32nd year of teaching in the Spring of 2022–all at South Orangetown Middle School! She currently resides in Rockland County with her husband and three children.
