Welcome to the SOMS Science Olympiad site!
Unfortunately due to our current situation we are not participating in a Science Olympiad competition this year. INSTEAD we are going to act as more of a science club providing opportunities to participate some great STEM activities that were events in prior years events.
What is Science Olympiad?
Science Olympiad is an international nonprofit organization devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science and providing recognition for outstanding achievement in science educ ation. The Science Olympiad tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of individual and team events, which students prepare for during the year. The competitions follow the format of popular board games, TV shows and athletic games. These challenging and motivational events are well balanced between the various science disciplines of biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, computers and technology. There is also a balance between events requiring knowledge of science facts, concepts, processes, skills and science applications. – from the National Science Olympiad website
At SOMS, the Science Olympiad is an after school club that is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys and girls who are currently enrolled as SOMS students. Students in the club expand their knowledge of science and technology and enjoy furthering their education and experiences in these areas. Teacher-coaches guide the club members in the after-school gatherings. Resources for all of the areas that are studied by the students can be found by clicking on the resources tab in the menu.
