ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR SOMS STUDENTS

SOMS is looking for a talented student to design the cover of next year’s Agenda Book!  Submissions are due to the main office by December 18th. Please see the SOMS Announcements page for additional information.

Are you interested in learning more about: American Popular Music, Oceanography, the Teenage Brain, Learning to invest in the stock market, Advanced English Literature, Poetry Writing, Fantasy and Science Fiction Short Stories, Literacy Skills for the 21st Century, Web Design, Number Theory, Psychology, Sociology, Meteorology, Mythology and even more? SOCSD is a member of the VHS Collaborative, a global approach to supplemental online learning. If you are the type of student who is curious, welcomes an additional challenge and can work independently, then consider this as a possible supplement to your academic studies. See your guidance counselor for additional details.

The Italian Club is sponsoring a toiletry drive to collect toiletries for the homeless and needy. Donations will be collected during homeroom. Each item is worth points and the homeroom that gets the most points will win a party. There are posters around the building and outside Mrs. Avantifiori’s room that indicate the point value of each item.

Any student interested in participating in the Lion’s Club International Peace Poster Contest, please see Ms. Dougherty in room 187.

If any student is interested in participating in the 2015 Google for Doodle Contest, please stop by room #187 for details.

Science Olympiad meets on Tuesdays with Mrs. Nybro in room 186 and Thursdays with Mrs. Biggs in room 151.

SADD club will be meeting after school today. Please see Mrs. Shaw if you have any questions. New members are always welcome.

TZ Red and White is celebrating SOMS Fall Modified Athletes with an ice cream party after school in the cafeteria.

SOMS PTA will host a conversation about the transition to the Middle School for 5th grade parents tonight at 7:30 in the library.

The Actors’ Information Meeting for Once Upon a Mattress will be held in the SOMS Auditorium from 4:00 – 5:00 today. You may not stay after school to wait for the meeting. We will discuss the show, the audition process, and our expectations for rehearsals and behavior. Please make every effort to attend this meeting if you are planning on auditioning. **This meeting is NOT for those interested in joining a crew.

Boys basketball tryouts will start next week from 3:00 until 4:15. 8th graders will report Monday and Wednesday while 7th graders will report Tuesday and Thursday.

There will a mandatory meeting next Wednesday for the NJHS Executive members. The meeting will be in Ms. Condon’s Room (Rm 237) after school. If you are unable to attend please let Ms. Condon or Mrs.  Fagan know prior to the meeting.

Digital Media Club will be meeting after school next Wednesday in room 180.

The next meeting of the Spanish club will be next Thursday after school in room 232. We will be taking our yearbook photo at this meeting.

Robotics Club will be meeting after school Wednesday, November 9th in room 180.
