ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR SOMS STUDENTS

The 2nd Annual SOMS Stem Challenge is scheduled for Saturday! You must register your team of four by TODAY. See the SOMS website for more information!

Sunday is Brain Day at Nathan Kline Institute – All are welcome. See SOMS website for more information.

SOMS is looking for a talented student to design the cover of next year’s Agenda Book!  The theme for the cover will focus on our 3 B’s of respectfulness, responsibility and preparedness.  The design can include color and needs to be an 8×10 portrait with the wording “South Orangetown Middle School Student Handbook 2016-2017”.  If you would like assistance with your design please see either Mrs. Dougherty or Mrs. Meyers. If you are interested in participating please submit your design to the main office by Friday, December 18th.  Thanks and Good Luck!

The Italian Club is sponsoring a toiletry drive to collect toiletries for the homeless and needy. Donations will be collected during homeroom. Each item is worth points and the homeroom that gets the most points will win a party. There are posters around the building and outside Mrs. Avantifiori’s room that indicate the point value of each item. Toiletry Drive

Boys soccer uniforms should be returned as soon as possible – If you have handed in your uniform, stop by Coach Freeley’s room for your sweatshirt.

Elections for Student Council delegates will be held today.

Digital Media Club will be meeting today after school in room 180.

Attention all modified football players – All equipment in your football locker must be turned in to Coach Lynch by today. All locks left on the football lockers will be cut.

French club will meet on Thursday after-school. We will prepare French national week so club members, bring to the meeting a white tee-shirt to decorate.

Debate club has been changed to Friday this week from 7:30 am-8:15 am. Saturday is the 2nd tournament of the season at the Anderson School, New York City. ​Please be prepared to mock debate the topic, This House will try and punish juvenile offenders as adults.

Next GSA meeting will be next Tuesday. Meet Mrs. Shaw in the cafeteria immediately after school to take the shuttle bus to TZHS for a meeting with the TZHS GSA at TZHS. You must have a ride home from TZHS at 4 pm sharp. There is no late bus.

The next SADD club meeting will be Thursday, November 19th instead of today. Please see Mrs. Shaw if you have any questions. New members are always welcome.

The next meeting of the Math Club will be next Thursday in room 324.

The Actors’ Information Meeting for Once Upon a Mattress will be held in the SOMS Auditorium on November 24th from 4:00 – 5:00. You may not stay after school to wait for the meeting. You may attend an office hour, but must be with an adult until 4 pm. We will discuss the show, the audition process, and our expectations for rehearsals and behavior. Please make every effort to attend this meeting if you are planning on auditioning. **This meeting is NOT for those interested in joining a crew.
