If you take a walk down the third floor of SOMS you will often hear the words shouted, Go team, go you! This is the motto that both students and staff on Team C have adopted to encourage each other to do their best. To help boost the team’s spirit and build a sense of community, the seventh and eighth graders on the team became mentors for our new sixth grade students. The upperclassman taught the sixth graders how to set goals for the year, as well as for each individual quarter. The goals were based on three categories: academic, personal, and social. Students used both technology, as well as their artistic ability to create their vision boards. Students chose phrases and pictures that would help encourage them to achieve their goals, and in a sense their vision for this school year. To honor the students’ visions and to bring the team together as a whole, a celebration took place. Mentors, mentees, teachers, and support staff all had the opportunity to spend time together to recognize our students’ unique visions. Go team, go you!
