ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR SOMS STUDENTS
SAVE THE DATE! The 2nd Annual SOMS Stem Challenge is scheduled for Saturday, November 14th. Registration will be available next week. Start getting your teams of four together!
Attention 8th Graders – The Sterling Mineral Mine trip permission slips are now past due. Please bring in a check for $32 made out to SOMS ASAP.
ATTENTION ALL PARENTS / STUDENTS – A few reminders for the Halloween Costume Contest during lunch periods on Friday, October 30: No props such as plastic swords, knives, pitchforks, etc. No masks, no sprays or paint of any kind in school. This includes hair and/or face paint. The costume must also adhere to the school dress code. Please use good taste in creating/choosing your costume so that it will not offend anyone.
The theme for this year’s Reflections in Art Program is Let Your Imagination Fly. Submissions can be Photography, Dance/Choreography, Musical Composition, Film Production, Literature and/or Visual Arts. See the SOMS website for more information and for the registration form. Attention 6th and 7th Grades: Explore cycle E1 ends on Friday. The new cycle E2 starts next Monday. 6th Grade class lists are hanging outside Mr. Calone, Mr. Freeley and Mr. Spiegelman’s rooms. 7th Grade class lists are hanging up outside the library.
The Book Fair will be all week in the SOMS Library. This year, there will also be one evening date – from 7-8pm tomorrow.
Attention Parents: Please join the SOMS PTA for a conversation with Mrs. Tesik about changing friendships in Middle School. See you tomorrow 7:30 in the library.
Attention SADD Club – Any student going on the field trip to STAC on November 6th, please see Mrs. Shaw for a permission slip. The next SADD club meeting will be after school tomorrow.
The next meeting of the SOMS American Idol Club will be on Wednesday in Room 238.
Digital Media will be meeting Wednesday after school in room 180. Please be sure to hand in a permission slip to the main office.
Go Green/Scrapbooking club will meet Thursday from 3:10 till 4:10 in room 323. Note the new day. Please bring your scrapbooking supplies and pictures. New members are always welcome!
The Actors’ Information Meeting for Once Upon a Mattress will be held in the SOMS Auditorium on November 24th from 4:00 – 5:00. You may not stay after school to wait for the meeting. You may attend an office hour, but must be with an adult until 4 pm. We will discuss the show, the audition process, and our expectations for rehearsals and behavior. Please make every effort to attend this meeting if you are planning on auditioning. **This meeting is NOT for those interested in joining a crew.
