On May 11th, current members of the National Junior Honor Society were able to celebrate their achievements while welcoming ninety-five new seventh-grade members at their annual Induction Ceremony.
During the Ceremony, representatives from the specific service groups spoke about how they raised money for this year’s cause. Michael Cinque, a scientist and cancer researcher from the In Vivo Group of Pfizer Oncology in Pearl River came to speak about current research.
To introduce the inductees to the code by which they will be expected to live both in and out of school, the student members of the NJHS Executive Committee spoke in detail about the Honor Society’s five pillars: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Citizenship, and Character.
Finally, the inductees were recognized individually and welcomed into the National Junior Honor Society upon recitation of the Honor Society Pledge. This year’s eighth-grade members of the South Orangetown Middle School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society have been busy at work raising money for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. After discussing it and taking a vote, the members of the NJHS decided on focusing all of their efforts on this singular charity this year.
In May, the members of the NJHS and its advisors, Carol Fagan and Kristine Condon, presented representatives from the St. Jude Children’s Research hospital with a check in the amount of $2,649.34.
