SOMS Announcements

Cycle Day 1

We will be having a locker cleanout on Friday, March 31st for the students to throw out unwanted items from their lockers.  Homeroom teachers and all teachers on Hall Duty during homeroom, please encourage the students to take home any extra clothing and clean out their lockers before the break.  Library books may be brought up to the library to be returned.

The next meeting of the Spanish Club will take place Today, March 29th after school in Doctora’s room. We will distribute the permission slips and discuss the menu for our upcoming luncheon to Noches de Colombia, and play a fun game for prizes…it’s a Hispanic game that few (if anyone) has probably seen before! Prizes to be awarded! Club members attending the music trip should see Doctora on Thursday for their permission slip for the trip.

Mrs. Henry’s 7th grade ELA Institute is cancelled for Today 3/29

The Social Awareness and Inclusion club is meeting Tomorrow, March 30th.

There will be a yearbook club meeting Tomorrow March 30th in room 153.

Are you interested in recycling?  SOMS is looking to hear from students about how we can increase our recycling efforts.  We will be meeting after-school Tomorrow, March 30 in Dr. Corey’s office.  Topics to be discussed include how to create posters or signs about recycling and composting in the cafeteria next year.

The NJHS needs your help to fill Dr. Coreys office with cans of food! All students are reminded that donations should be brought to lunch and given to the teacher in charge. Your donations help to feed the hungry here in Rockland and may win you a Super Homework Pass! For every can of food you donate you will get an entry in a drawing for a super homework pass.

The Social Awareness and Multicultural Clubs along with the Principal’s Committee will be having a joint meeting on Thursday, April 13 after school in room 232.  We are looking for students to share their thoughts about what is working, and where we can improve our SOMS community for the entire student body.  It is a chance to hear all voices and ensure that every student feels safe, comfortable, and included at SOMS. One of the most powerful tools we have is voice, and we want to hear yours!

Any student applying for NJHS who has any questions or concerns about any part of the application process should speak with Mrs. Beckmann or Mr. Goldstein. The completed application is due by April 14th.
