SOMS Announcements

Attention All Students:  If the temperature is between 21 and 45 degrees you MUST have a minimum of either a sweatshirt or fleece jacket to go outside for recess.  If the temperature drops below 21 degrees, there will be no outdoor recess.  Please remember to bring your jacket to recess if you want to go outside.

 The GSA Club will be meeting on Tuesday December 6 in the cafeteria at dismissal. We will take the shuttle bus to TZHS to meet with the HS GSA. All SOMS students need a ride home at 4:15 sharp from TZHS. Any questions please see Mrs. Shaw. 

Are you interested in learning more about: American Popular Music, The Space Station Academy (NEW!), Oceanography, the Teenage Brain, Learning to invest in the stock market, Advanced English Literature, Poetry Writing, Fantasy and Science Fiction Short Stories, Literacy Skills for the 21st Century, Web Design, Number Theory, Psychology, Sociology, Meteorology, Mythology and even more?  Registration is now open for the 2017 Spring Term for The Virtual High School (VHS)!   Our Spring Semester begins January 25, 2017.  Please contact your student’s guidance counselor or Mr. Yassky.

Attention Parents and Students – please check the lost and found located at the 1^st floor lobby by the auditorium for any articles you may have lost.  All unclaimed items will be donated by December 5^th.

 Science Fun Night will be Thursday, December 1^st from 6:00pm-7:30pm in the SOMS Cafeteria.  There will be a movie, ice cream, games and a water bottle flipping contest.  Tickets will be on sale through Thursday for $5.00 during lunch periods.

Attention All Athletes:  As a reminder each day of tryouts or practice please report immediately to the cafeteria upon dismissal.

SOMS is looking for a talented 6^th or 7^th grade student to design the cover of next year’s Agenda Book!  The theme for this year is our “4 C’s” of communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity.  Submissions (on an 8 ½ by 11 piece of paper) are due to the main office by Friday, December 9^th.

The NJHS is working with the Legacy X Foodbank to collect food for those in need.  There will be a box in the main lobby, and we are asking you to bring in canned/boxed goods to help local families.  We will be running the food drive through December 22^nd and a full wish list of food will be posted outside Mrs. Fagan’s and Ms. Condon’s classrooms, as well as on the collection box. Thank you for your generosity!

There will be an information meeting for students interested in auditioning for the CAST of Bye Bye Birdie on December 21^st after school in the auditorium. Please bring a pen or pencil. Please make every effort to attend as all the audition information you need will be given at this time.

SOMS Guidance Alert: The SOMS Guidance Department will be running a family changes group for 6^th, 7^th and 8^th grade students. The purpose of this group will be to help students cope with the grief and stress of divorce and/or separation.  If any student could benefit from this group, please contact Mr. Farrugia.  The group will run 6-8 weeks during the school day and is projected to start the week of December 12^th.
