Congratulations to eighth-grader Ava T., South Orangetown Middle School’s New York Jets Upstander of the Week! “Whenever Ava enters the room, she has a smile on her face and exudes an energy that helps to create a positive learning environment,” her teachers say. “She is the ‘go to’ student whenever someone needs help or is struggling with a problem. Ava speaks up for her classmates when they are being treated unfairly and invites them to join her group of friends so that they feel like they belong to the SOMS community. Like other Upstanders, she looks out for others to prevent bullying before it happens.” Great job, Ava!
This is the third school year that South Orangetown Middle School has participated in the New York Jets and Stomp Out Bullying’s Upstander of the Week Program, which aims to reduce and prevent bullying nationwide. Students recognized receive a t-shirt, two tickets to a Jets home game and a parking pass.
