Over the summer, Facilities staff made enhancements to the playground area at South Orangetown Middle School. The area was repaved with stenciled areas to prompt students to get active, with students’ physical and emotional health in mind. “It’s awesome,” says seventh-grader Miles H. “It was hard to make out the lines before to play Four Square. Now we play all the time!”
Students can also play hopscotch during recess or get their energy out at one of the various exercise stations. “It’s amazing to see students taking advantage of the new space and enjoying the fresh air,” noted SOMS Assistant Principal Joseph Onativia. “The guided play areas encourage children to work together and get their daily exercise in — all while having fun!”
