On May 22, six South Orangetown Middle School ensembles participated in the Music Showcase Festival, a special competitive event. The Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Concert Choir, Treble Chorus, Concert Orchestra and Symphonic Orchestra performed for adjudicators and all earned a rating of “Superior,” the highest possible.
Following the performances, the SOMS Music Department traveled to the Kalahari Resort to celebrate its success together as a “music family,” reports Team Leader Janice Tocco. “Through this daylong event, SOMS music students had the opportunity to work collaboratively not only as members of their ensemble, but also as a whole department across grade levels and varied ensembles to achieve the common goal of musical excellence,” she notes. “It was a unifying, supportive and musical experience for all students.”
