Congratulations to South Orangetown Middle School sixth-grader Kailey D. on placing fourth in the Patriot’s Pen Youth Essay Contest for VFW New York State District 2!
As the winning essay of the school contest, judged by Raymond W. DeMeola Memorial VFW Post 1615, Kailey’s entry advanced to district judging earlier this year. The 2018 contest theme was, “Why I Honor the American Flag.” “I thought it was an interesting topic and did a little research for the essay,” explains Kailey. “I learned about each of the branches of military and what they do. They do so much to keep us safe.”
